Dear Potential SMS Career Day Speaker:
I am writing on behalf of Sartartia Middle School to seek your participation in our Career Day 2009 on Friday, December 4, 2009. It is an event to introduce 8th grade students to career and employment possibilities.
Researchers have recommended that career exploration and awareness begin before high school, when students have already made major decisions about courses. Career Day at Sartartia Middle School tries to help with this. During this event, speakers conduct presentations on their careers to small groups of students. As students gain understanding of the preparation needed for specific careers, they may begin to consider the role that postsecondary education and training could play in their futures. Students often don't have a clear understanding of their interests and which fields would suit them best. SMS Career Days hopes to provide the students with a better understanding.
As a career fair speaker, your sessions will be from 9:20 am– 12:50 pm. You can choose from speaking in a classroom or setting up a display in the gym. As a classroom speaker, your presentation will be for about 15 minutes in each session – 6 total. As a gym presenter, you will set-up in the gym and the students will come through and talk to you. We will also provide breakfast and lunch and any assistance you will need in setting up for your presentation. In your presentation, we would like you to briefly describe your educational background, what you do on a daily basis and the type of individuals you interact with. Additionally, it would be interesting to touch upon those things that happen behind the scenes, as students may not be aware of the preparation necessary in your occupation.
Thank you for taking the time to consider help make this year’s Event great. The support which you may offer towards this worthy cause will be extremely appreciated by Sartartia Middle School, and more importantly, all the students who will benefit from your experience. Please reply if you will be able to attend this event or send a representative.
Sincerely,
Asha C. Vaidya
